It’s your first week in your new position. As with any new position, you will have a lot to do and learn. In your new role, you will be dealing with more information, and more sensitive information than ever before. Sometimes the information you work with will be classified. You have to be aware that adversaries are constantly trying to get their hands on that information using a wide range of attacks. Remember information security is part of your responsibility and should be placed above all else. Throughout your day, your information security officer, Jeff, will be monitoring your progress and letting you know how you’re doing. Currently, we are experiencing a high number of cyber-attacks, so make sure to do your part to secure information. Surrounding the screen is your normal heads up display. At the top you will find your score and your adversary’s score. When you make a good choice, you will gain points. However, when you make a mistake that threatens information security, your adversaries will gain points. Sometimes your decision may have no result, meaning neither you nor your adversary will gain points, and you will have the opportunity to try again. If all the choices you make are optimal, you can earn up to [3,450 points for Defense and Federal Employees, or 4,300 points for the Intelligence Community]." If you make the best possible decision, or a high scoring one, you may win an achievement trophy. Some useful buttons include: the task list button, which allows you to return to your task list at any point during the Challenge, though your score will be reset for any task you leave in progress, the resources button, which provides access to references and resource files with more information on Challenge topics, from the resources, you can access a web page where you may find resources specific to your agency, the pause button, which will allow you to pause the Challenge, and the audio controls, which will allow you to mute just the music or background audio, or to mute all audio in the Challenge, including the narration. If you are ever confused about what to do next, follow the instructions in the direction bar. You will soon be ready to move on to your task list, where you will choose tasks to complete as you move throughout your day. Your tasks are grouped into four parts, corresponding with a time of day and location. You may complete tasks within a part in any order, but you must complete all tasks in one part before moving on to the next. You can repeat any task you want, but doing so will reset the points you previously earned for that specific task. The Challenge is complete when you finish every task on the task list. This concludes your introduction. Information security threats can happen at any time and be launched from anywhere in the world, so remain alert! It only takes one mistake to allow adversaries access to sensitive information that can harm your organization.
